This hand ridger (or furrower) is a handy tool for the vegetable garden. For clay soil, you'll need some muscle, and it's advisable to mill the soil first. Working width 20 cm, ridger length 30 cm. What do you use it for:
1) Planting potatoes, leeks, etc. You draw a deep row, plant in the furrow, and then draw another row between the furrows so that the planting furrow closes. Potatoes can optionally be given a higher ridge with a spade.
2) All alliums (leeks, onions, garlic, shallots) dislike "wet feet". A raised plant bed is a good solution, but it's quicker to create a furrow & mound using this ridger.
3) Very shallowly, you draw a small furrow, which is ideal for sowing beans and other large-seeded crops.
Tip: sometimes the best effect is achieved by drawing the same furrow twice.
