Bird Box Hedgehog Basket

A good nest is vital, even for hedgehogs. It allows hedgehogs to successfully survive the winter during their hibernation. A nest is often built under a pile of logs, a compost heap, or a pile of leaves. However, in our tidy landscape, hedgehogs often lack the opportunities to build a nest. This hedgehog basket, imitating a natural nest, is the ideal shelter for a hedgehog.
Place the hedgehog basket on a somewhat dry surface in a sheltered and quiet spot in the garden. Put some loose leaves in the basket. Then cover the basket with a thick layer of leaves, then with a plastic sheet, and then again with leaves, branches, and other natural materials. The opening should be left clear and preferably not face North or Northeast. It is important that the structure is sturdy enough so that dogs, badgers, etc., cannot easily destroy it.
