A happy plant starts with mixing your own soil.
Tailor your ideal soil to all your plants' needs. We provide the essential elements for an excellent potting mix.
For airy soil and healthy roots.
Pumice is a light, porous volcanic rock that provides more air in the soil and improves drainage. It helps to quickly drain excess water, while still retaining a small amount of moisture. This allows roots to get more oxygen and reduces the risk of root rot.
Because pumice does not decompose or compact, the structure of the potting soil remains airy for years. It is therefore particularly suitable for cacti, succulents and other plants that are sensitive to wet feet. Houseplants with a well-developed root system also benefit from the extra space and aeration.
Benefits of pumice:
Pumice is often compared to perlite. Both improve drainage, but pumice is heavier, more durable and stays in place better in the pot. This makes it particularly suitable for larger and mature plants.
Usage
For cacti and succulents: mix 30-60% into the potting soil.
* For houseplants: add 20-30% for extra aeration.
* As a top layer: apply a layer of 1-2 cm on the potting soil.
* In terrariums: combine with bark, moss or activated charcoal for extra structure and drainage.
In short: pumice provides a lighter and better-draining substrate, allowing roots to grow healthier and plants to be less susceptible to overly wet conditions.
Granule size
# Fine (4-8 mm): suitable for smaller pots, seedlings, cuttings and finer soil mixes. Distributes evenly through the potting soil.
# Coarse (8-16 mm): ideal for larger pots, aroids, orchids, cacti and plants with thick roots. Provides maximum aeration and fast drainage.
