Who doesn't know this famous subtropical plant: its leaves are a flavour enhancer in soups, sauces, meat dishes, marinades, etc. With our mild winters, the bay laurel stays outdoors almost all the time; with some extra protection from acrylic cloth, it should survive most winters... but during real winters: into the shed! Fresh bay leaf is slightly more bitter than dried, making it an extra flavour enhancer! Symbolically, the bay laurel has been used since the ancient Greeks as a crown (laurel wreath).
