Ornamental and practical meet again! This Chilean species comes from cold Patagonia and forms wonderfully fragrant, creamy-white, bell-shaped flowers. After flowering, pink-red medallion-like seed pods appear, which remain until late autumn, resembling spindle trees. The shrub tolerates the cold well, and its blossoms are very popular as bee food! Tannin is extracted from the bark for leather tanning.
