From a distance, the flowering large-flowered calamint gives the impression of true thyme: soft lilac and a buzzing of bees and bumblebees! Up close, the fresh minty scent is striking and unparalleled: a hint of thyme and camphor are clearly noticeable! The variegated foliage is gracefully green with white and yellow spots, and the bloom of thousands of labiate flowers can continue deep into autumn if the spent plant is immediately cut back. The taste is spicy and minty; both leaves and flowers are edible in salads, meat and fish dishes, potatoes, herb butter, etc. Give the plants a sunny spot, good drainage, and some protection in winter.
