(1905) Cultivated by Franz Göschke of Proskau. In the early 1900s, the first sugar strawberries (pineapple strawberries) came from the growers. Our current range of large strawberries is descended from this. 'Königin Louise' is still considered a deliciously sweet variety with a slightly tart "aftertaste"... Johannes Büttner (a famous German grower) considered this variety and 'Sieger' to be the tastiest strawberries in all of Germany! My taste experience: deep seeds (just like the raspberry strawberry 'Frau Mieze Schindler'), which give a pleasant mouthfeel, fairly small fruit, broad and round in shape. Very soft flesh with a sweet, slightly tart taste”
The plant was cultivated around 1905 by Franz Göschke in Proskau. The plant was very popular at that time, both in home gardens and in commercial cultivation, and was considered an "exceptionally highly prized, beautiful variety". Initially, three Queen Luise varieties cost 60 marks each, and the grower sold them for no less than that price. Anyone who wanted one had to pay such a high price. When it ripens, it not only tastes like wild strawberries, but also fills the whole house with its fragrance. The plants themselves are not particularly large by today's standards, but they bear many medium-sized, beautiful, bright red fruits that have no equal. All strawberries lose flavour and appearance with too much water, but this variety in particular. Therefore, keep it briefly watered and lay straw or something similar underneath it in the garden during cultivation. So far, this variety has proven relatively winter hardy. It needs plenty of sun and well-fertilised soil to develop its full flavour.
