The Holm Oak is advancing northwards as our winters become milder and stay that way. Of course, caution is still needed, as this beautiful, evergreen oak cannot survive a very harsh winter. The acorns are very popular and edible; they are roasted or ground into flour. In nature, the roots of the Holm Oak are one of the most important habitats for the highly prized truffles. Feel free to grow the young trees in the open ground; they can be well pruned into shape. We sell acrylic fabric or climate netting if the winter threatens to be extremely severe.
