A compact fruit tree perfectly suited for small gardens, patios, and balconies. Despite its size, this tree yields delicious nectarines with a sweet, aromatic flavor. In spring, it blooms profusely with pink blossoms, which are also attractive to bees and other pollinators.
The round fruits have a smooth, hairless skin with a color ranging from yellow with a red blush to deep red. The flesh is yellow to yellowish-white, firm, and juicy. The taste is sweet with a fresh undertone, and the mouthfeel is soft and melting. The fruits are delicious to eat fresh and suitable for desserts, pastries, fruit salads, and jam.
Nectarines originated from a natural mutation of the peach (Prunus persica) and have been cultivated for centuries. The dwarf nectarine combines these characteristics with a compact growth habit.
The tree is self-pollinating, and one specimen is sufficient for good fruit set. Plant it in a warm, sunny, and sheltered spot in fertile, well-draining soil. Provide sufficient water during dry periods for good fruit development.
The dwarf nectarine is reasonably winter hardy and tolerates approximately -15 °C. However, the early blossoms can be sensitive to late night frost. A sheltered location and protection of young trees or potted plants during severe frost help prevent damage. Prune the tree after harvest in the summer to keep the crown open and healthy.
