The honeyberry ‘Boreal Beast’ is a strong and very winter-hardy fruit shrub that originates from Canada and is well adapted to cold climates. The plant grows with moderate vigor and can reach about 1.5 to 2 meters in height and width, with a compact and sturdy growth habit. In spring, it blooms with small yellowish-white flowers, after which elongated, blue-frosted fruits develop with a refreshing tart to slightly sweet taste, rich in antioxidants and vitamin C.
‘Boreal Beast’ is not very susceptible to diseases and pests and requires relatively little maintenance, but performs best in a sunny to semi-shady spot in nutritious, well-drained soil. Cross-pollination is necessary for a good and abundant harvest, so combine it with other varieties such as ‘Aurora’, ‘Boreal Beauty’ or ‘Blue Velvet’. Thanks to its high productivity and strong winter hardiness, this is an excellent choice for both hobby gardens and small-scale fruit cultivation.
