The blueberry-like fruits of this shrub-like honeysuckle relative have a pleasant, sweet taste (with a slight tang) and are eaten fresh (in a dessert, for example) and (for centuries) processed into jam, juice, sauce or compote: very healthy! The berry is elongated and frosted blue. The shrub, over 1.5 m tall, grows best in sun (to slight shade) in almost any moisture-retaining soil and is not very susceptible to disease.
This Japanese variety can be harvested from mid-June to mid-July, making it a late variety for a Honeysuckle berry. The berries have a delicious taste with a special aftertaste of wild strawberries!
