This old variety produces a high yield of rather elongated, thin-skinned nuts and the plant grows slowly. Plant at least 2 different varieties for good pollination. Good pollinators are 'Webb's Prize Cob', 'Cosford', and 'Halle'sche Riesen'. Hazelnuts prefer moist but airy soil.
Hazelnut bushes produce hazelnuts, a well-known and healthy nut that is often associated with chocolate! The ripe nuts fall off the bush naturally (in September), so pick them up regularly. Hazelnut bushes grow into large shrubs, which can be kept open with some pruning. Allow a spacing of 2-3 m between shrubs. Both male and female flowers grow on one plant, and they are wind-pollinated. Self-pollination is unfavorable, so cross-pollination is necessary.
