This is truly an excellent grape (originating from Spetchley Park Gardens) for the ornamental garden for several reasons! The medium-sized, blue bunches (which produce red juice) are delicious for wine and table use and grow on resistant plants, meaning they are barely affected by powdery mildew. Furthermore, the beautiful red autumn color on the elegantly incised leaves is a delight to behold, an extra bonus: the reddening already begins in summer!
Some suspicions about its origin: it probably has Vitis vinifera purpurea or Gamay in its lineage, and varieties like Tinterieur, Gamay Bouche, or Dunkelfelder could be in its ancestry, contributing the red-juice genes. Its resistance suggests American blood.
Growing grapes outdoors is the dream of many garden owners, isn't it...? In contrast to the disappointing varieties 'Witte van der Laan' and 'Rembrandt', we offer a selection of tasty, mostly disease-resistant varieties, extensively tested in our climate.
Grapes can be susceptible to fungi such as powdery mildew, downy mildew, botrytis, black rot, and red blotch. Some varieties are almost completely resistant, others have partial resistance or a very high resistance to fungi. With a few spring sprays of organic agents (see our chapter on organic crop protection), these can be kept very healthy.
WE CAN ONLY PURCHASE MOST VARIETIES ONCE A YEAR (IN NOVEMBER OR MAY). DELIVERY TIMES CAN THEREFORE BE LONG.
