This prostrate, highly branched dwarf shrub does not grow taller than 15 cm. The delicate, white, urn-shaped flowers have a playful red tip (pouting mouth); after flowering, small red berries appear, which contain arbutin, tannins, and flavone glycoside, medicinal against many inflammations and very tasty after cooking and sugaring. The plant prefers to grow in dry, sandy places and forms a dense mat of evergreen, glossy green leaves. The dried leaf, together with alum, yields a good blue dye. This variety flowers almost year-round!
