  • Product number: 818250.1
  • Origin: Mediterranean region
  • Latin: Prunus dulcis

DUE TO THE FULL LENGTH OF THE SAPLINGS (2.5 M), PICK-UP IS RECOMMENDED. IF SHIPPED, WE WILL PRUNE THEM BACK TO 1.7 M.
In spring, this hardy tree surprises with beautiful, soft pink blossoms. They prefer calcareous, not too wet (and therefore warm) soil and plenty of humus. 'Robijn' is one of the few and very reliable varieties. The tree (or substantial shrub) is self-pollinating and yields a good harvest. Around late September, you will see the green, hairy fruits burst open; you don't need to pick them earlier, as the closed fruits cannot be opened and are not yet ripe. You can also wait until they fall. Let the nuts dry for 3 weeks, then they are edible: raw or roasted. The nuts have a brown skin that not everyone enjoys. After a short blanch, you can easily remove the brown skins. You can store unshelled nuts for about 6 months in a dry, dark, and cool place.
You don't need to protect the harvest as birds do not eat almonds. However, be careful of night frost during flowering in spring. You prune an Almond (and other stone fruit) in the summer months, or immediately after harvest. Pruning in the summer months has one big advantage: you can see where fruits are hanging and adjust your pruning accordingly. Prune overly long and high branches back by 1/3, plus, of course, broken, dead, diseased, or crossing branches. And since you can see the fruits hanging, you can either prune back or shorten branches that are not bearing fruit. Almond and Peach pollinate each other if they bloom at the same time. We supply grafted saplings, rootstock St. Julien A.
FOR BELGIUM, WE MUST CHARGE AN ADDITIONAL €10 DUE TO THE PACKAGING COSTS OF THE SAPLINGS.
