1.) Makes any potting mix airier.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Perlite holds water in its vesicles, trapping water droplets in small 'chambers' or 'pockets'. Perlite is heated and expanded granite grit. The product therefore has something in common with popcorn: it pops just like corn on a hot plate. This additive is water-repellent itself, but has many pores that can store water and air. Perlite is a wonderful product: its few drawbacks are purely physical. For example, we must bear in mind that it is extremely light, and therefore has a tendency to rise to the surface every time the soil mixture is saturated with water. A second problem is that the product used for plant cultivation is WHITE. It may therefore be considered aesthetically unsuitable. In the greenhouse (especially in winter), a layer of Perlite on the soil is very beneficial for light reflection.
