The olla (pronounced oy-ya) is an unglazed, porous, terracotta pot (this one is conical) that can be buried in a central spot between plants. The pot is then filled with water. The plant roots will grow towards the pot and draw water from it. If the pot is refilled regularly (3-5 times a week), the plants will thrive and you'll save 50-70% water. By connecting a bottle of water to the cone, you can keep your plant or planter hydrated for longer. Not using a bottle of water? Then close the cone to prevent evaporation, this way the water stays clean and mosquitoes don't get a chance to lay eggs. These cone pots do not come with a cap, a cork for example is an option.
The olla is ideal for flower boxes, vegetable gardens and greenhouses, we advise removing the olla from the ground before the frost period.
