The Buxa Trap is the perfect solution for catching male box tree moths using a species-specific lure. Easily check for the presence and severity of the pest, while preventing moths from reproducing. This eco-friendly trap is reusable and comes with 2 free lure tubes. Keep your boxwood healthy and effectively protect it from box tree moths with the Buxa Trap!
With the Buxa trap, you can effectively catch male box tree moths. Lure tubes (pheromone) can be placed in the Buxa trap to attract the male moths. The male moths will fly into the trap and then will not be able to leave it. You should hang the trap near (and at the same height as) a boxwood plant.
The Buxa trap is used to signal early if box tree moths are present in the garden and to gain insight into the severity of the infestation. This trap is not only for signaling but also for catching the male specimens so that they can no longer fertilize females. This will lead to fewer fertilized eggs and thus a decrease in the number of feeding caterpillars. The life cycle of the box tree moth is broken.
Usage
1. Dosage
For a light infestation: 1 trap per 150 m².
For a heavy infestation: 1 trap per 50 m².
2. When to use
Box tree moths mainly fly in the months of May to September. The advice is therefore to hang the traps from mid-May. Box tree moths are mainly active at night. You will see them little or not at all during the day.
3. Shelf life
Store the pheromone capsules in a closed package in a cool place. Preferably in the freezer or otherwise in the refrigerator. Change the 2 pheromone capsules every 6 weeks.
4. Location
The boxwood trap can be hung close to boxwood bushes.
For low boxwood plants: place the boxwood trap on a stick and stick the stick in the earth.
For boxwood on a stem: thread a string through the boxwood trap and hang it at eye level.
5. Repeat treatment
The 2 lure capsules (pheromones) that need to be placed in the trap last approximately 5 to 8 weeks. This period depends on the temperature; in warm weather, the lure will lose its effect faster. Therefore, it is advised to change the capsules every 6 weeks.
A Buxa trap comes standard with 2 tubes of pheromones. For a whole season, you will need 8 tubes, so you can refill twice.
Once the Buxa trap is full, the trap can be emptied. It is advised to change the pheromone capsules every 6 weeks.
