Diatomaceous earth is made from crushed and ground skeletons of single-celled diatoms and is therefore 100% organic in origin. In animals, it works very well against red mites, fleas, etc. In plants (in pots or in the garden), a layer works very well against ants, woodlice, slugs and, for example, fungus gnats. If the protective layer gets wet, its effect is temporarily lost, but it works again when it dries. In pots, the entire surface can be covered; in the garden, you can scatter barrier strips.
There are also many industrial applications (filtration) or in the food industry.
