Paeonia lactiflora 'Claire De Lune'

(1954) A very beautiful, single-flowered, cream-yellow peony. This one was created through crosses with Paeonia mlokosewitschii. (It took 4,000 crosses and 8 years to achieve this result...) The round, water-lily-like flowers are made extra attractive by the orange-yellow stamens, which form fine powder brushes. The plant blooms very early at 80 cm tall and grows to more than a metre wide over the years. Rain hardly affects the blooms, and the foliage remains beautiful until autumn.

They grow in all types of soil:
In clay, growth is trouble-free; do not fertilise too heavily and ensure good drainage.
In sandy soil, the plants remain somewhat smaller; sufficient fertilising keeps the plant in good condition.
In peat soil, growth is generally good, but the plants will need to be replanted or replaced slightly earlier.

Place peonies in a sunny spot and plant them (immediately upon arrival) so shallowly that only a few cm of soil covers the crown; firm the soil first.
We supply bare roots; each plant has been growing for 4–5 years, so the chance of early flowering is high! Some varieties grow into their intended (double) form as they get older. Colours may vary slightly from year to year and depend on the preceding winter cold. Because we have to wait for the plants to die back naturally, the roots are available EARLIEST FROM OCTOBER.
