The bud is an azure blue grape hyacinth, but the description of this beautiful variety does not end there: As the buds open, the first thing you notice is that the cluster has a rather round shape. The flowers are very light blue to white with azure blue stripes and open into a bell shape (this is in contrast to most grape hyacinths, which do not go beyond the shape of a kissing mouth). They bloom from bottom to top, while a cluster of white-striped sterile flowers emerges at the top (like a crest). As early as 1928, this beautiful species received the Award of Garden Merit in England from the Royal Horticultural Society.
