A rarity among Crown Imperials: below the wreath of orange-red bell-shaped flowers there is another such wreath: a double quantity of flowers! Soft purple stripes and creamy white nectaries provide extra embellishment.
The sturdy stems have graceful wreaths of glossy green leaves up to 2/3 of their height, and at the top, a cluster of large bell-shaped flowers with a crest (crown) of bracts. It is known for its repellent effect against moles. Tip: because the bulb has a hollow at the top where rot can occur in very moist soil, we advise planting the bulbs on their side.
