This perennial plant is a favourite of many...! In spring, the sturdy leaves first appear, quickly followed by clusters of delightfully sweet-scented, white bells. Pick them for a small vase too... Older people may well have had them in their bridal bouquet!
They prefer poor, shady soil and will spread quickly there. Never plant them together with wild garlic, as they look similar and the leaves of this Lily of the Valley are not edible and are poisonous in large quantities.
