Special because of its color: purple-red, and its flowering period: July-August. In the spent stage, the white stamens are clearly visible. The enormous (15 cm large) spherical inflorescence is very firm and compact and is reminiscent of the well-known drumstick alliums (Allium sphaerocephalon), but on a larger scale. The foliage stays fresh for a long time and the strong, purple-colored stems grow up to 175 cm long, with outliers (on fertile clay) of 250 cm! A true sky-high performer…
Ornamental onions (or Alliums) are very popular! They bloom from May, a time when garden chairs can be brought out!
