This Voodoo Lily is a striking feature in your garden! After a few years, a tuber develops that can even bloom dry in spring: an enormous spathe with an equally long spadix emerges from the tuber. The flowers grow larger as the tuber grows. The colour is cream with reddish-brown speckles, and because this is a carrion flower (which needs flies for pollination), the flowers emit a sweet, sickly smell. It's not a good idea to bring them indoors during flowering, or perhaps it is as a joke...
If the resulting tubers are planted around 20 cm deep in well-draining soil, they will easily survive the winter. You can also overwinter the tubers cool and dry in a shed. After the unusual flowering, enormous leaves emerge on speckled, thick stems. Each leaf divides in an attractive way.
