This trumpet lily was a true sensation when it was introduced in 1958! Jaan de Graaf from the US bred this and other trumpet lilies by crossing Lilium henryi with other lilies. The result is a strong lily that blooms for years and grows to about 120 cm tall. The large, downward-facing trumpet flowers are lilac in bud and turn light orange in the throat. Older bulbs sometimes produce up to 20 flowers on 1 stem!
The lily has captivated humanity for centuries: in the Bible as a symbol of beauty, in the Middle Ages as a symbol of virginal purity. The flower creates an effect of serene beauty in a semi-shaded spot in your garden .…
