From an active enthusiast, we have obtained the special red form of the rarely beautiful Giant Lily. This magnificent lily originates from northern Japan, the Kuril Islands, and Sakhalin, where it thrives in coniferous, oak, and bamboo forests in cool, moist mountain areas. Its thick stems grow to a height of 70 – 200 cm, emerging from elegant, large, heart-shaped leaves. It blooms in July/August with a cluster of 2-15 trumpet-shaped flowers (12-18 cm in size) featuring a velvety ruby-red interior and an almost white exterior. This colour is still very rare! The flowers have large nectaries at the base of the corolla that secrete abundant nectar, attracting many bumblebee species, bees, and butterflies.
