Microclover Lawn 'Microclover & Grass'

  • Product number: 678050.1
  • Origin: Europe
  • Latin: Trifolium repens

Revolutionary novelty! After years of selection and breeding, Denmark has succeeded in developing a non-spreading, small clover (Trifolium repens 'Pirouette') that possesses the same growth power as grass. This offers great advantages:
a. Clover extracts nitrogen from the air and provides it to the grass, significantly reducing the need for fertilization and ensuring the lawn constantly appears fresh green.
b. The combined lateral growth power further suppresses weeds and the turf also retains moisture better.
c. Due to the fine clover leaf, the grass effect is maintained, and the field does not become slicker. Sports fields are also constructed with it.
Experiences in Great Britain and Belgium are very positive. In the Netherlands, for example, the Vondelpark has been sown with it.
The grass mixture (15% Kentucky Bluegrass, 40% Red Fescue, and 45% Perennial Ryegrass) contains ± 5% Microclover, packaged separately. Mix this well with the grass seed before sowing. After germination and growth, the clover will eventually constitute about 30% of the total. The microclover can be purchased separately: see no. 391900.
THE COMPOSITION MAY VARY SLIGHTLY DUE TO AVAILABILITY.

Sowing method: April-September, not in excessively warm weather. To achieve good seed distribution, the volume can be increased with, for example, dry silver sand or masonry sand. Ensure a well-leveled field, preferably slightly sloping (either crowned or to one side). The soil particles should be very fine to ensure optimal encapsulation of the seeds. After distributing the seeds, rake them in with short movements and then flatten the soil with a roller or by walking on planks. Ideal conditions are temperatures between 15-25°C with regular rainfall. In dry conditions, water regularly until the clover germinates sufficiently. Germination takes 2-3 weeks. The mat is optimally walkable if the clover is mixed with grass seed. If the field consists solely of microclover, it should not be walked on too intensively.
