Are you looking for a type of grass that is reasonably ornamental and also resistant to extreme conditions? This Phalaris has already proven its worth! In Australia (New South Wales), this is THE variety for grazing (by cows, sheep, horses and goats) in which case the plant obviously doesn't flower, but without grazing the plant forms a broad-leaved base with flowering stems up to 150-180 cm high. The brush-like panicles are hugely popular with birds!
Drought and moisture do not bother this grass, intensive grazing and fire are well tolerated, they cope well with frost, in short: a real powerhouse!
