This is the wild ancestor of our cultivated oats. This grass is common worldwide and, with its drooping spikelets, remains a beautiful bloomer! Ripe wild oats with the setting sun as a backdrop – can you picture it? It's an annual plant that can root quite deeply, making it ideal for holding light soil together and breaking up heavy soil. The seeds are edible and very healthy, by the way!
