Ideal oats for the hobbyist: the seeds are hulless, so they are immediately edible after harvesting (cook into oatmeal) or easy to grind. For professional cultivation, hulless oats are still too much of a risk, as the hull naturally protects the seed from damage due to heavy rain or lodging (wind damage). As a hobbyist, you can prevent lodging by not sowing the crop too densely and not over-fertilizing. Of course, you should sow oats in full sun. Oats are an underestimated crop; they have little gluten, comparable to Teff, while the latter is still far from adapted to our climate, oats are!
