This (wrongly!) unknown tree grows in many places in Japan and is completely hardy in our climate. The beautiful blossoms (in June) of hanging, fragrant, white flower clusters are greatly appreciated by bees, and the fruits are edible for humans and birds. The shiny green leaves change beautifully in autumn to lovely orange hues.
