An easy-growing shrub that can reach up to 5 m in height and can be pruned well to 2.5 m. In May and June, the shrub blooms with white, hanging flower clusters, followed by the amusing
fruits. The almost round capsule fruits are membranous, strongly inflated, 2½ to 4 cm in size, and contain many seeds. They are 2 to 3-lobed, yellowish-brown when ripe, and do not open. Place them in a sunny to lightly shaded spot. The seeds are edible.
