This South African tree is quite frost-hardy, so it will last for years in our climate; in any case, keep it frost-free the first year... This Acacia is also very suitable as an ornamental tree in a pot or even as a bonsai! The first thing that stands out are the brownish-black thorns; the green leaves are beautifully pinnate, as with almost all Acacias, and the fragrant cream-white flower clusters hang down like tails. After flowering, green and later brown pods with seeds form. The leaves, tree sap, and young pods are edible, the wood is very popular for furniture making and, when young, for fencing.
