A tree that is common around the Mediterranean Sea. The feathered leaf is firm and quite resistant to drought. The growing tips are decoratively tinged red. Nice as a pruned container plant. The plant is monoecious; you need a male and female plant for fruit set. The small fruits ripen from lilac to dark blue and (dried) brown. In Arab markets, the latter are sold as a spice for their typical resinous taste: "butim".
