In South Africa, this elegant heather forms a sturdy, medium-sized, bushy shrub that can grow up to 120 cm high. There, it grows close to the coast among boulders or densely packed among scrub. The plants bloom with attractive, semi-translucent, tubular flowers, ranging from bright to dull red, and have striking veins on the corolla. In Northern Europe, this heather is not winter-hardy, so it needs to be overwintered frost-free or well-wrapped during frost. You can sometimes find it offered at auctions as an ornamental potted plant.
