A plant from the higher tropics, so it can withstand some frost (provided it's not wet at that moment). In a large pot or in a sheltered spot in the garden, the plant grows into a rounded shrub with glossy, lance-shaped leaves. The greenish-white flowers develop into decorative, triangular fruits with (seemingly) papery wings. The fruits are green to pink and have the same function in beer as real hops. The leaves are used as a stimulant, but beware of excessive use. Chewing them for toothache really helps, but spit out the plant sap afterwards.
