In warmer regions: a small, sturdy, shade-giving, evergreen tree with dark green, compound leaves. The older branches bear the thick, starch-rich pods. These are used, among other things, as a chocolate substitute. A nice container plant with a very old cultural history, also suitable as a bonsai. Another nice story: the seeds almost always weigh 24mg and were formerly used on a balance to weigh gold. This is where the unit of pure gold is derived from: keration=fruit of the carob tree. 24 carat is pure gold!
