This beautiful Brazilian plant grows into a tree in the tropics and will need to be brought indoors during winter here. The reward (after a few years) is a fantastic bloom of hanging clusters with chalice-shaped, light purple flowers. The name Clitoria refers to this shape: the clitoris.
In tropical forests, the plant is a welcome pioneer for providing necessary soil reinforcement to affected areas. Research shows that its roots, pods, and seeds contain important anti-inflammatory agents.
