A plant with the appearance of a subtropical shrub, but very hardy in our climate. The mimosa-like foliage bears (large!) clusters of yellow butterfly-shaped flowers with prominent, black stamens at the top. The aromatic, pleasant scent of the flowers dissipates after blooming, and the reward is decorative, dark brown seed pods. In autumn, this magnificent solitary plant turns shades of yellow. Give the plants a sunny to partially shaded spot, with well-drained soil. Butterflies, bees, and other insects feed on this plant.
