On slender stems (50-75 cm), the dark velvet-red labiate flowers bloom profusely from June until the frost. This Salvia lignifies and is best pruned back annually for good rejuvenation. Give them a sunny, not too wet spot and protect them well in winter or pot them up and place them in the shed. They tolerate some frost.
