This woodland plant is ideal for a shady spot in the garden and can grow up to 2 m tall in fertile soil (on sandy soil, 1 m is to be expected). The juicy stems have alternate leaves and at the height of each leaf, 2 or more hanging, white flowers. An elegant plant that emerges from the ground very quickly in early spring.
The young shoots are (especially when blanched) very tasty as an asparagus substitute. Most commonly, this plant is used as a medicine, extracted from the (older) roots. Look online for its many applications and only use them after expert advice.
