Latin: Penstemon alpinus, also known as glaber var alpinus

Beautiful compact species, which deserves a place at the edge of the border or in the rock garden. The height is (depending on soil type and location) 20-50 cm. The flowering is abundant with blue to violet-red flowers in short racemes. The leaves are shiny dark green. Plants that are exposed to wind in winter should be given some shelter. Flowering period: May - July.

Sowing method: Sow year-round in a seed tray. First, provide warmth (18-22°C) for 2-4 weeks, then give it a cold period, for example in the refrigerator (+4°C) for 4-6 weeks. Afterwards, gradually warm it up to room temperature, after which germination will follow. The seeds germinate irregularly over a longer period, so do not discard the sowing too soon. Sowing directly in the garden is also possible; in that case, simply let it overwinter, and germination will occur in the spring.
