Since the 19th century, this substantial plant has naturalized in Europe (from America) and can now be found all the way to Finland! It thrives even in the poorest soil. The large, yellow flowers (blooming period VI-IX) grow in clusters at the top of the 100-150cm long stems and open in the afternoon. They bloom from bottom to top, with the long, salmon-colored buds providing an additional decorative effect. This wonderfully fragrant plant is the last daily task for a bee colony. Medicinally, the oil from its seeds is used as an anti-inflammatory. Its leaves were a tobacco substitute in WWII... A biennial plant that self-seeds easily.
