Field Scabious

Product number: 593750
Origin: Europe
Latin: Field Scabious

Beautiful, a wild scabious in a casual garden. The flower heads are spherically filled with lilac, purple to crimson colors. In the Netherlands, it is mainly found in Limburg. They prefer calcareous, dry to moist soil. Butterflies, hoverflies and bees love the flowers! An old joke: blow tobacco smoke on the flower and it turns bright green, hence the nickname: the tobacco flower. But then again, we don't smoke anymore... do we?

Sowing method: Year-round in seed tray, first give 2-4 weeks of warmth (18-22°C), then a cold period in e.g. the refrigerator (+4°C) for 4-6 weeks, then gradually warm up to room temperature, after which germination will follow. The seeds germinate irregularly over a longer germination period. So, do not discard the seedlings too quickly. Sowing directly into the ground is also possible; in that case, simply let it overwinter, and germination will occur in spring.
