Stinking Iris

  • Product number: 592500

The soft mauve flowers are of serene beauty and the fruits offer an ultimate surprise. When they burst open, they reveal bright orange-red, white, or yellow berries: a tip for the autumn table! The species name "foetidissima" means "stinking"; don't be alarmed, the only thing that smells (a relative term) about this plant is the bruised leaf: a cloying, sweet scent is released. Height 60 cm.

Sowing method: All year round in a seed tray, first give 2-4 weeks of warmth (18-22°C), then give a cold period in, for example, the refrigerator (+4°C) for 4-6 weeks, then slowly warm up again to room temperature, after which germination will follow. The seeds germinate irregularly over a longer germination period. Therefore, do not discard the seedlings too soon. Sowing directly in the ground is also possible, in which case simply let winter pass over them; germination will take place in spring.
