Native plant, excellent for naturalizing. The leaves are arranged in a star shape around the square (!) stems. The delicate white flower clusters bloom on 30-90cm long stems from May to September. The plant grows excellently in the shade, but sun is not a problem. Like madder, the plant yields a famous red dye. In the past, the dried plant was mixed with ordinary straw in mattresses.
