The most compact (and perhaps the most beautiful) Eucomis! The long, rather narrow leaves grow in a rosette and are beautifully marbled with purplish-red. In the centre, the bloom emerges in purplish-pink clusters of lighter pink flowers with a tuft of marbled leaves at the top of the cluster (like a pineapple). Give the plant a prominent spot and enjoy its beauty! With some extra leaves, you can protect the plant well, and it is quite hardy; over time, the plant forms bulbs in the ground.
The plant is named after its "discoverer" Frederick Ziervogel van der Merwe and grows rarely in Mpumalanga (Eastern South Africa)
