Rattlesnake Master

  • Product number: 587095
  • Origin: Not applicable / Not known
  • Latin: Eryngium yuccifolium

Around the year 2000, this beautiful plant was introduced as new! Admittedly, we hadn't known it before either. It turns out that this wild (protected!) prairie plant had long been cultivated in North America. The thick, softly spiny basal leaves are reminiscent of our houseplant Yucca, as the species name suggests. Give them a sunny, yet not too dry spot in the garden. The bloom (July-September) attracts bees and butterflies, is over 1 m high and consists of many spherical thistle flowers in a greenish cream color with sometimes a hint of blue. All in all, a rare plant with a calm appearance. This plant gets its name from the tincture that Native Americans make from the roots after a snake bite.
