With its brush-shaped flowers, it is truly a member of the cornflower family. The color of the flower heads is purple-red to lilac-pink with a brownish-black flower base (actually the so-called involucral bracts). The flowers are quite large, 3-5cm in diameter, and grow on 1m high stems. It blooms from July well into autumn. In our country, the plant is still rare in the dunes.
